Are there options for skaters who cannot attend one of the scheduled try-outs?
I‘m currently in St.John‘s and it would be easier (though still insanely expensive) to try out in Saskatoon than in New Hamburg (which has no airport). I know for the previous team video submissions were considered, is this an option for 2014?
Thanks,
Caitlin

Hi Caitlin.

There is information re: closest airports to the New Hamburg location under the East Try-out tab.

As for video submissions, the coaching staff is currently discussing this option.

Thanks.

Hi Bryan,
I was also wondering about video submissions, as I am in Saskatoon but I won’t be able to make it to the try-outs that day. I’ve tried to get to Roller Derby try-outs in the past, but have never been able to make it and a video submission would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Lauryn

Bryan,

I would like to try out but my Canadian passport is expired and I am renewing it today, but am not sure if it will show up in time for the try-out. I live in California currently. Will this be a problem (I have my expired Canadian passport if it’s to prove citizenship and a current US passport to travel at this time)?

Thanks!
Vanessa

Hi Vanessa.

You need a Canadian passport that will be valid when the World Cup occurs next December in order to be eligible to try-out, so you should be fine.

Thanks.

Hi,

I was wondering if you have a breakdown of what the eastern tryouts would actually consist of? I have searched, but I can’t seem to find anything.

Thank you,

Natalie

General Information

The try-outs will be a full-day affair. We will divide everyone into smaller groups, and start the day with several hours of skills drills- both individual and group drills. After that, we will have a lunch break (you may want to pack a lunch), after which we will run a full-length scrimmage. Depending on the number of participants in each try out, we may choose to only select a sub-section of players (around 30) to participate in the full scrimmage, so that we can better observe the main candidates in a most competitive game situation possible. Everyone is welcome to stay and watch the game.
That’s what it says in the info for the Eastern Try out. Hope that helps!

Hi Bryan

I currently have a concussion and am allowed zero contact at this time. I will see what the doctor says in a few weeks but would that put me out of the running if I try out unable to play full contact? I can still show skills, stamina and speed and will be ready to train full out in 2014.

Thanks
Jill

Hi,

I have never had a passport. I am applying for one, but I won’t have it by the tryout. Am I still eligible?

Thank you
